The DIY Toolkit: Essentials for Every Project

If you’re a hands-on kind of person, you most likely enjoy do-it-yourself (DIY) projects. DIY projects are one of the easiest ways to liven up your space, and few things are more satisfying than successfully completing one. Further, there are DIY projects for every room including the bedroom, kitchen, and living room. You can organize, entertain, or simply decorate with a DIY project—just make sure you have everything you need. Here are the essential tools you need to make your home DIY projects easier and more fun than ever before.

Drill

Purchasing a drill can take also serve as a screwdriver because of the different bits available. You’ll have different screwdrivers on hand like Philips, Allen, and square because of different available drill heads.

Experts recommend purchasing a drill that is at least 12 volts because anything less powerful will not be able to drill into a wall stud. A cordless drill is ideal for DIYers because you’ll have a steady flow of power, but not too much for projects you’re completing. Choose the appropriate weight for the drill so your arms don’t get tired of holding it!

Your drill will come in handy when building those custom shelves you’ve always wanted.

Palm Sander

If your DIY projects require wood or you like the look of weathered wood, you’ll find a palm sander useful.

These small sanders can be used to make rough surfaces smooth, or even make the wood look worn out. They’re also easy to work with thanks to the sturdy handle on top. Try to get one with a pointed end and you’ll have no problem reaching the difficult angles in this wooden jewelry box.

Tape Measure

Almost every DIY project will require some form of measurement, and that’s why a measuring tape is a must-have. You’ll save time from having to dig around your desk for a ruler.

Invest in a strong and sturdy tape measure with a locking mechanism allowing quick and efficient use. Find one with red rectangles every 16 inches; it’ll come in use when designating wall studs as that is the standard distance between them.

Try out your measuring skills with this outdoor bench.

Standard Level

Building bookshelves and hanging your DIY shadowbox require a level. It’s a simple tool as it works by looking at an air bubble inside vials of liquid, but it’ll keep books from sliding off shelves and won’t have you tediously figuring out if your shadowbox is straight or not. You can purchase levels in a variety of sizes; they’ll all get the job done.

Hammer

A hammer is an obvious tool for your DIY kit, but you may want to purchase two

Lightweight hammers are key to delicate projects, like adding trim to a piece of wood—you don’t want to split the wood, after all. The hammer can also be used for putting a nail in drywall. However, don’t depend on the lightweight hammer for everything. A heavy-duty hammer is the one that can handle nailing into studs and hang a heavy mirror.

Toolbox

Don’t forget the most important DIY essential–a place to put your tools. Have fun with whatever type of storage system you decide on to put you need for your creative decor! Having it all in one handy place means you never have to waste time looking for that screwdriver!

Always practice safety, follow instructions, and be patient when completing your DIY projects!
