NEPA Breweries: Hanover Township’s Benny Brewing Co.

Craft beer has become more popular across the United State and has also become a dynamic beverage option in our area over the last few years. With a growing number of locally-owned breweries and microbreweries popping up, we thought it was about time to start rounding them up here.

We’ll be visiting a local brewery each month and writing about it on the blog. For our first visit, we went to Benny Brewing Co., located at 1429 Sans Souci Parkway in Hanover Township.

Benny Beginnings

But first, where did it all start?

Ben Schonfeld was inspired after visiting a local brewery in Myrtle Beach. His experience as a patron led Ben on his own journey into the world of craft beer. He began researching the vital steps in production, recipe options, and eventually produced his first ten-gallon brewing system.

It took two years for him to develop recipes and test batches. It was then when he realized that he could share his creations with the public at Marty’s Blue Room in Nanticoke, PA, his family’s restaurant.

One year later, Ben opened Benny Brewing Co. in a room connected to the restaurant’s bar. The nano-brewery started with just a 30-gallon SBACO system that supplied four tabs at the restaurant.

Ben’s beer began to appear at other locations in the area. Today, they offer 4 year-round brews, an ongoing “One & Done Series,” and 4 seasonal ones for our enjoyment in their new location on the Sans Souci Parkway!

Mission: “Providing great quality hand crafted ales and lagers to the surrounding area.”

Restaurant & Brewery

Since their beginning, Ben opened a new location on the Sans Souci, and they now offer both food and drinks (both mixed drinks and their handcrafted beers).

With the new location came a few additions to their offerings. This includes the aforementioned “One and Done Series,” which welcomes input from customers as to the flavors Benny’s tries, as well as food and the mug club.

We’ll start with the food. Benny’s offers an expansive menu of appetizers, sandwiches, burgers, soups, salads, entrees, desserts, and more. There’s something for the whole family here. They even have a Cajun smoker—taken, cleaned, and redone, from Marty’s Blue Room—that they use for their BBQ offerings.

Benny’s brews!

They also offer “The Mug Club.” For $75/year, members get a personalized mug, a free birthday meal, one free new release each month, 10% off food on Tuesdays and on store merch. At the end of the year, members get to keep their personalized mug, and more. If you’re interested, apply here!

The great part about breweries is that they are family-friendly! Children of all ages are welcome at Benny Brewing Co. Outside, they can take part in giant Jenga, corn hole, and more. Oh, and the outdoor seating offers access to growing hops!

A parking lot provides plenty of parking, featuring 50 spots, including handicap spaces—just remember not to drink and drive!

Ongoing series—check in on the third Friday of every month for a new local brewery feature!
